Advanced Recycling Venture Executive

Born in El Paso, Texas, Mario Chavez graduated in 1994 from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He continued his education graduating in 1996 from Texas A&M University with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Mario joined Exxon initially as an intern in the summer of 1992, completing a total of five summer internships between the Baytown Refinery and Exxon Research and Engineering. He joined Exxon full-time in 1996 as a contact engineer at the Baytown Refinery.

After initial assignments as both a Mechanical and Process contact engineer in fuels and lubricants areas of the Baytown Refinery, Mario held Coordination and Supervisory assignments in the Technical and Process organizations. He then moved on to Downstream Headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia for assignments in Industry Analysis and Supply.

In 2008, Mario became the Global Aromatics Financial Planner Manager in Chemicals and helped support the consolidation of the Aromatics and Olefins Financial Planning Manager roles. He then moved to Beaumont, Texas as the Light Oils Department Head.

In 2013, he became the Technical Manager at the Chalmette Refinery, outside of New Orleans, Louisiana. Mario then moved to Leatherhead, UK as the Europe, Africa, and Middle East Crude Optimization Manager, responsible for crude optimization and circuit profitability.

In 2016, Mario became the Technical Manager at the Baton Rouge Refinery and in 2017 into the Senior Downstream and Chemical Planning Advisor role, in Corporate Strategic Planning at Corporate Headquarters in Dallas, Texas, then into Chemicals as the Global Olefins Commercial Manager and on as LatAm Fuels Manager. Mario is currently the Advanced Recycling Venture Executive for ExxonMobil.
